How To Make Mason Jar To-Go Mugs

Considering our post on local coffee shops last week, I thought a DIY for a to-go mug may be appropriate. Pinterest had several ideas for turning a mason jars into travel mugs and there's even a plastic top you can buy to quickly convert a jar.

This was a pretty easy project and it would be a fun one to do with the kids so they could paint their own mugs. You may want some type of a cozy or sleeve if you're going to be using this mug for hot beverages but it would also be great for smoothies in the morning :)

TOOLS:

Mason Jars
Waterproof Glue
Glass Paint
Paint Brushes
Metal Grommets
Grommet Setting Tool
Hammer
Drill
Needle-nose Pliers

STEP 1:

Follow the paint's instructions to paint your design on your jar and allow it to dry

STEP 2:

Drill a hole in the center of your lid. I used my needle-nose pliers to widen the hole so it would fit my grommet. I then removed any pieces of metal on the backside of the lid.

STEP 3:

Use your needle-nose pliers to press back the spikes on the bottom piece of the grommet so that it will press flat to the lid when hammered together.

STEP 4:

Use your grommet setting tool to hammer the grommet into place

STEP 5:

Follow the instructions for the waterproof glue to glue the 2 lid pieces together
