Tell us who you are and what you do.
Hi, I am an Artist, a Designer and an Art Teacher. I work in different creative media. I am always learning and discovering new ways of art expression.
When did you know you wanted to be an artist and was it always your goal?
I knew I was an artist from my very childhood. Since five years old, I was always obsessed with art. It all started from Kids Art School at my native town Lviv in Ukraine. I have continued to pursue my dream as far as getting a Master’s Degree in Arts. It was always my desire to do art for a living. No matter what I did in my life I was always going back to doing art.
What inspires you the most when it comes to your artwork?
When it comes to my artwork, my inspirationare people around me, the nature and my own emotions.
Sometimes you cannot realize where the idea came from, but it can find you anywhere and anytime in your daily life.
Describe your style.
It is quite hard to identify myself stylistically. My art is always derived from real object, but within my own interpretation. I have a few abstract pieces I have painted in the past, but mostly naturalistic and figurative ones.
Who is your favorite artist (famous or not famous…living or dead) and why?
I am a true fan of 20thcentury modernist era, especially I am fond of abstractionists like Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miro. I was always amazed by a unique balance of elements and simple complexity that they demonstrated in their work. I also love their understanding of colour and shape.
What’s your favorite piece that you’ve created?
My favorite piece I have made is called the“The Moment”. It is an oil on canvas painting. I believe it is the best representation of my personal artistic style. It is my very special art piece.
How do you get into a creative head space?
I need a special atmosphere to be creative. Everything around me should be organized and placed where it belongs. I think that the final product and the creative process should be beautiful and cannot be done in a chaos.
What has been the most challenging part of being an artist and creating commissioned work? (As opposed to just creating art for yourself.)
I believe as a professional you should be able to make income with your art. The most challenging part of it is the compromise between clients’ needs and your professional expertise. My career in art is mostly a very pleasant experience, only a few customers really gave me a hard time where understanding person’s desires was very challenging. However, it is ironic that those clients are the ones I remember the most.
How do you keep yourself motivated on the hard days?
My loved ones and God’s help always keep me positive and optimistic.
Professionally, what’s your goal?
My professional goal as an artist is to have lots of clients and interesting, creative and challenging projects. Client’s happiness when they see the painting for the first time is worth a lot to me!
I also enjoy teaching art to both children and adults. All of my teaching experience I had so far was extremely pleasant and rewarding.
What is your dream project?
I always dreamed to have one of my painting done on one of the building walls in an old city. I love the paintings we have here in Toronto Bloor Street West area. I think those enormous size artwork paintings amplify their beauty even more.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
The best advice for a beginning artist is to never stop learning, experimenting and challenging yourself.
What are you working on right now?
Right now most of the work I do are portraits. I enjoy it very much, especially when I do portraits for couples that are in love. Sometimes family members order portraits as wedding gifts. That is a very pleasant experience for me. Love also gives me an amazing inspiration.
Tell us something little known about you. (ie embarassing moments, favorite food, silly obsessions)
I have a passion for my dogs. My husband and I have two incredibly smart Dachshund doggies. They are so much fun and have so much love to give that you would not believe!
