Craft Trends to Ditch in 2025
Each year I create a list of products that are trending that a handmade business may make and sell on Etsy or at craft shows.
You can check out 2025’s trend list here. I created it a little differently this year by focusing on which products are not only trending up in online searches, but that Etsy is also seeing an increase in traffic for.
So I created this list a little different this year as well, in hopes that it will be more valuable to craft business owners.
PLEASE NOTE:
1 – Ditch is a suggestion
The terms on this list do not suggest there is NO traffic for them; or that you won’t make sales if you make these items.
These are terms that are currently seeing a decrease in traffic to Etsy and a drop in search volume online.
It may be that these are still popular items, but big brands/businesses have started offering them, so Etsy no longer holds the top spot or people don’t turn to smaller handmade businesses for them.
2 – No guarantees
The traffic and search volume can change. Even though I’m seeing a decrease at the time of writing this article, it can take a turn.
So please your own research before jumping off a trend and do what’s right for your business. If the list says “evil eye jewelry” is trending down but you have lots of demand and sales for the item, then keep selling it.
Always follow your business’s stats when making decisions.
3 – Please leave a comment 🙂
If there’s a trend you’ve been following and you don’t see it listed here (or on the 2025 craft trend list) please leave a comment and I’ll try my best to look it up for you.
4 – Visit the trends list
Don’t forget to check out 2025’s Craft Trend list. There are LOTS of ideas there as it’s easier to find new trends than to find ones that are on an obvious decline.
How I created this list
I created this list by:
- Searching popular categories of products (e.g. jewelry, sticker, toys, etc.) or general trends that have been popular (e.g. Y2K)
- Sort results by decrease in traffic (on Etsy) and find terms that have a drop in traffic and low traffic overall
- Double-check the term for overall search volume online and see if it’s climbing, plateauing, or dropping
I’ve only included terms that are seeing a decrease in traffic to Etsy and a decrease in search volume online.
General trends to ditch
- cow print
- mom shirts
- Barbie
- macrame
- cottagecore
- vapourware
- evil eye
Specific products to ditch in 2025
- pom pom earrings
- cuff earrings
- evil eye bracelet
- evil eye necklace
- teething necklace
- amber teething necklace
- hair bandana
- blanket scarf
- infinity scarf
- keyhole scarf
*Keep in mind that “scarf” terms may be losing traffic/search volume as we head into 2025 due to the end of winter growing near. However, in general, these terms are seeing less traffic when compared to previous years.
- fisherman beanie (there is still a high search volume for this item, however, it’s slowly declining based on the past few years. “Beanie” is holding steady.)
- quilted makeup bag
- macrame wall art/wall hanging
- macrame plant hanger
- succulents (search volume for this term spikes every May, however 2024’s spike was lower than the year prior and in December 2024, search volume dropped to the lowest its been in 9 years.)
- concrete planter
- chunky knit blanket – there is very little traffic for this term, and variations of it, on Etsy. Search volume in general gets a spike every Nov/Dec/Jan but that spike has been continuously getting smaller each year; keep an eye on it for winter 2025.)
- lambs ear wreath
- swung vase
- mushroom vase
- bridal sneakers
- bridal robe set (“set” being the keyword here; bridal robes are still popular on Etsy)
- western wedding decor
As mentioned, please leave a comment if you are curious about a specific trend in your niche that you don’t see listed here or on the 2025 Craft Trends list 🙂

Hey, I’m Erin 🙂 I write about small business and craft show techniques I’ve learned from being a small business owner for almost 2 decades, selling at dozens of craft shows, and earning a diploma in Visual Communication Design. I hope you find my advice helpful!
Uv Resin items
Hi Janey!
UV Resin still has high search volumes, which peak every Dec/Jan. Dec 2024’s search volumes for the term are only slightly lower than the highest, which was Jan 2022. Looks like it will hold steady or increase slightly heading into 2025.
That being said, Etsy currently gets very little traffic for each UV resin-related term (e.g. uv resin molds, uv resin earrings, non toxic uv resin, etc.)

Just wondering what subject is popular among 2D wall art. Thanks!
hey there…i recently have read about leather patches being popular? i do machine embroidery and sewing and would love to find something new and different to make..
can you give me any info about leather patch popularity?
thanks so much for all you do!
Hi Jan!
It does look like “leather patches” is increasing in search volume. I don’t see many niche products within that category but “custom patches” are popular and “work patches” came up in my searches more than once.
To get an idea of what might be popular, you can research some of the bigger online businesses selling patches. For example, Google “custom leather patches” and look at the websites in the top few results. What type of patches do they feature on their home page? Colorful? Monochromatic? Do they follow a theme? Look for repetition from one website to the next, which will better indicate a trend.

thank you so very much!!! i’ll put my research cap on today
Just an FYI… if you are checking specifically on Etsy and not any other venues, then your numbers are wrong. Etsy is in a huge down slide due to their changes favoring only buyers and ditching support for their sellers. Sellers are leaving in droves.
Hi Denise,
The intro of the article explains how I double-check my trends based on numbers/stats.
It is frustrating that Etsy makes changes that negatively impact sellers but the numbers from multiple sources show that it’s still the most popular online marketplace for handmade (by a long shot and based on traffic).
Also, keep in mind, my trend lists are based on what consumers are searching for and clicking on. There are still tens of millions of people visiting Etsy each day, even if many sellers are closing their shops.
I do keep an eye on other online marketplaces for buying/selling handmade, but as of writing this, Etsy has the most traffic, which makes it the best resource for finding high search volume/traffic handmade-related products.
